What to Look For This Year
From day one, your baby is growing, exploring, and connecting with you. While every baby is different, here are common milestones you may see in their first year:
Communication & Language
☐ Turns toward familiar voices or sounds
☐ Coos, gurgles, and babbles (around 4–6 months)
☐ Responds to their name
☐ Uses different cries for different needs
☐ May say “mama,” “dada,” or other simple words by 12 months
Movement & Motor Skills
☐ Lifts head during tummy time (by 3 months)
☐ Rolls from tummy to back (around 4–6 months)
☐ Sits up without support (around 6–8 months)
☐ Crawls or scoots
☐ Pulls to stand or takes first steps by 12 months


Play & Learning
☐ Follows moving objects with eyes
☐ Reaches for and grasps toys
☐ Brings toys to mouth
☐ Explores with hands and mouth
☐ Begins to understand things exist even when out of sight
Social & Emotional
☐ Smiles in response to your voice or face
☐ Enjoys cuddles and talking
☐ Forms attachment to familiar people
☐ Shows preference for people or toys
☐ May show fear of strangers or clinginess by 9–12 months

NEXT STEPS
